Davenport Day 2

Today was our second day being in Davenport, and it was a free day! It started out normal, like any other day of tour, early breakfast, and load up the bus for the day.

As for scheduled events, there were only two big events scheduled for the band: the Putnam Museum, and the Ballgame.

We first started with Putnam. The Putnam museum, founded in 1867, is a museum where people can connect with history and ideas by doing, making, and experiencing, with a plethora of exhibits and classes for just about everyone! Exhibits such as these featured: Build! Create! Innovate!, The Colors of Culture, Faces of the Past, Mother Nature: Modern Muse, and Pollination Investigation. There is also a science exhibit, couple historical exhibits, and a few Natural World exhibits.

I personally loved Build! Create! Innovate!, and Mother Nature: Modern Muse. Mother Nature: Modern Muse, displays how scientists and engineers use organic life forms to improve modern technology. Without harming any life forms of course! Such as: using the slime from snails as adhesive, or using the way owls can fly silently to improve aircrafts, or using the way morpho butterfly’s wings and the feathers of peacocks change color and reflect light to create nontoxic pigments and reflective coatings to keep interiors cool.

And Build! Create! Innovate! was a very interactive exhibit for people of all ages to just use their imagination to build anything they want out of little building blocks! I think it’s safe to say the band loved this room very much.

There is so much more to the museum, such as historical events and memorabilia such as World War II, The Great Depression, modern day timelines, engineering and technology improvements, and more. I could go on and on, but you’ll just have to visit Putnam Museum to gain the full experience!

Between the museum tour and the ballgame, we were free to wander around Davenport to do whatever we please. My small group had a late lunch at a very nice restaurant called Me & Billy, and did some window shopping. Despite the heat and humidity, it was nice to do some sight seeing!

After eating and sight seeing, we made our way to the Figge art museum and had another self guided tour for the remainder of time we had left before the game. There was a section in particular I found very interesting! This section displayed various instruments made from different scrap materials. Each exhibit Also had speakers to display how each instrument would sound if played.

Finally came the Ballgame. Frankly I don’t have much to say about it, I’m not a baseball person so it didn’t interest me, but It was still fun getting to spend time with the band! That was until my roommate and I had to leave the group shortly after the game started due to having a covid scare… Long story short, we stayed for the game, but I will be roommateless for the remainder of tour.

Overall, the day wasn’t half bad! Despite being incredibly hot and humid, and stressing over covid, it was still a fun filled free day in Davenport. :)
